TJC general manager Kay Jeffrey and WEG CEO Rod Laing believe what is a two-year sponsorship deal is the start of a major partnership for the two sporting organisations.
Kay Jeffrey said of the Cup meeting to be held Sunday, April 29 “We think aligning with Wests is a great step forward and mutually beneficial for us both. This year’s Mercure Tamworth Cup is also worth $150,000, up $50,000 from last year and that will make this a good quality race. It will attract city class horses from all the big stables.”
“Wests Entertainment Group is proud to reunite our association with the Tamworth Jockey Club. We are looking forward to a successful Tamworth Cup weekend” Rod Laing said.
The Tamworth Cup meeting will be previewed by a Cup Calcutta in Blazes at Wests on the Saturday night before the Cup meeting. This is a great opportunity for the racing community to come together at a social event, something that is rare within the busy racing calendar.
“It is going to be a great night and will have something for everyone” Kay Jeffrey said.
The Cup meeting itself will have many exciting additions including a major fashion On the Field competition with fantastic prizes up for grabs.
“It’s also a fun family day, we have everything to keep the kids entertained including a jumping castle and face painting. We also have a kid’s fashion on the field section” Kay Jeffrey said.
“We will have plenty of marquee options on the day and have everything for a great family day out.”
She said the Wests sponsorship is more than just a Cup meeting.
“The benefits will be far greater than just the Cup. This is more than just sponsorship of the Tamworth Cup, it is a partnership, yearlong, between two great clubs that will be celebrated each year on cup day with benefits to both clubs’ members.”
